As a child I wanted to be a fashion designer but there wasn't much call for that in Mebane. In middle school home ec class we got to draw out a floor plan for our dream home and ever since then I have loved architecture and interior design. One of my favorite classes in high school was interior design, but once again, there wasn't much call for that in my small town. I ended up being a teacher like my mother and grandmother since I thought that was a safer career path. After 5 years of teaching dance in the public school system I knew that wasn't for me, but I did not know what to do. I continued to teach dance at a private studio at night while working for a real estate appraiser during the day. After a few years we also became a real estate sales office. This is when I started seeing more and more homes. I then went to school part time to get my interior design degree. During this time, my father's receptionist/bookkeeper was retiring at our family business, King Tire Service of Mebane. So, I took her job thinking it would be temporary until I graduated and could go on to do interior design full time. Well, God has a way of changing our plans. Five months before graduation my father died rather suddenly, and my sister and I were left to run the tire business. Many years later my sister and I decided our hearts were not in the tire and automotive business. It was our Dad's dream, but not ours. We sold our business, then King Tire Pros of Mebane, to live our own dreams. I have been doing some interior design work part time throughout this but now is the time for me to see where Blue Sky Design will take me. I hope I will be able to help other people see their dreams come true in their own homes. |
